Resource Geologist

PanAust Limited is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold producer in Laos, with pre-development and exploration assets in Laos, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea PNG.

In Laos, PanAust hold a 90 per cent interest in the Lao-registered company Phu Bia Mining (PBM). The Government of Laos owns the remaining 10 per cent. PBM has a Mineral Exploration and Production Agreement (MEPA) with the Government of Laos which regulates exploration, development and mining activities within the Contract Area. PanAust’s producing assets in Laos are the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, both located in the Company’s 2,600 square-kilometre Contract Area.

This position is based in our regional shared services office in the Lao capital of Vientiane, with travel to provide support to the Phu Kham and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver operations, near mine exploration and greenfield exploration projects.

Reporting to the Principal Resource Geologist, this position will undertake or guide all Mineral Resource estimates for the operations and exploration projects, as well as provide estimation support to the sites with a focus on grade control modeling. The Resource Geologist will provide guidance on sampling and assay QAQC as well as review data and geology models from both mine sites and exploration teams to ensure that quality data is collected. You will also be responsible for completing training to team members in estimation and geostatistics.

Responsibilities

• Manage individual project work programs
• Complete Mineral Resource modelling
• Evaluation of internal and external Resource models\
• Review drill hole data and analyse QAQC data
• Review and/or model surfaces and solids for project areas
• Complete training for team members.

Skills and experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology
• Member of a professional body
• Recent and strong hands-on experience in geological modelling, Resource development and Resource modelling
• Familiarisation with the JORC code essential
• Strong understanding of general mining software packages, knowledge of geological/wireframing and geostatistical modules essential
• Proven ability to critically evaluate information, problem solve and be resilient in the face of setbacks
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and contractor management skills
• High levels of enthusiasm and energy combined with a proactive approach
• Strong commitment to training and supporting the growth of Lao National employees
• Unwavering safety focus

Benefits

We offer competitive remuneration packaging, bonus incentive, medical insurance and more. This role is offered on an attractive Fly in Fly out or Residential Basis. FIFO roster is 28 days on and 14 days off, with transport to and from site provided by the company and 1.5 days of travel in company time. Residential roster is 5 days on and weekends off, with relocation assistance, housing allowance, annual flight home and potential tax advantages.
