Senior Production Metallurgist

This position is based at our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation, located approximately 120km north of the Lao capital, Vientiane.  Phu Kham is a conventional open pit mine producing approximately 65,000 tonnes of copper concentrate annually.  The process plant, recently upgraded to a design capacity of 16 million tonnes per annum, comprises a SAG mill and two ball mill grinding circuits, each rated at 13 mega watts, with copper and precious metal recovery by flotation.

Reporting to the Metallurgy Superintendent, you will take the lead on a range of longer term projects including mine-to-mill programs focused on mill throughput and metal production from Phu Kham's highly variable copper deposit. This will see you working closely with the mining and geology teams to apply geometallurgy principles to define the ore characteristics across short and long term horizons, and developing and implementing improvement plans. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior metallurgist to truly add value through the delivery of meaningful improvements as we approach peak production over the coming years.  

Your key responsibilities will include: 

• Lead the geometallurgy effort through managing the Phu Kham mine to mill throughput projects
• Coordinate the Phu Kham metallurgical drilling program and subsequent comminution, mineralogical and flotation testwork programs for future ore treatment
• Manage the generation, collation, analysis and subsequent recommendations from all longer term routine metallurgical evaluation programs
• Develop concentrator operational readiness plans for the introduction of new ore sources into the Phu Kham concentrator and manage any testwork programs required
• Champion the efforts in improving the ability to model and predict key performance indicators of mill throughput and copper recovery
• Develop and manage concentrator capital project works arising from identified improvement opportunities
• Provide operational performance improvement and implementation plans to production metallurgy/operations for opportunities identified from review of mineralogical, metallurgical, and operational data
• Produce routine and technical reports for all work being undertaken, and communicate findings and progress to relevant stakeholders where required 

To be successful in this role, you will require: 

• Degree qualification in metallurgy
• Extensive flotation experience gained in an operational environment - either in house or as a consultant
• Track record of delivering longer term metallurgical projects
• Superior skills in Microsoft Excel and metallurgical modelling software (JK Simmet and JK Simfloat or similar)
• Talented in solving complex technical problems through innovative solutions
• A proactive approach, combined with a strong focus on driving outcomes
• Ability to successfully engage with a range of stakeholders
• Unwavering safety focus
